Handle with Care: Attending to the Social &

Emotional Health of our Students

Please join the PTSA at our next meeting on Tuesday, May 15th at 7pm in the Library.  We will be discussing how we as parents, teachers, administrators and community members can help our students mentally navigate this complicated world.  We will also be updating everyone on how Project AWARE is progressing at CVHS.

Please join us for this important and timely meeting.

This is the meeting that was originally scheduled for March but was canceled due to inclement weather.

It's Election Time!

We are thrilled to have such talented members of the CVHS Community volunteer to be nominated for the PTSA Board for the 2018-19 school year.  With the gifts and diversity of knowledge they bring, it is clear the CVHS PTSA has a bright future.  Here is some information on each of the nominees so you can get to know them better:

Sharon Stemme (Nominee for President): I have been on the CVHS PTSA Board for two years as secretary.  I was PTA President at Liberty Middle School for two years and was also president at an elementary school in Connecticut.  I used to work in the hotel business and now work at Liberty Middle School.  I am familiar with school policies.

Christine Smith (Nominee for 1st Vice President): I have a rising 9th grade son and a 12th grade daughter at CVHS. I volunteered at my children's schools for almost 13 years and have been a member of various PTO/PTA/PTSA for 11 years. I enjoy helping to support the schools through the PTSA. I have been the 1st VP at CVHS for the past 3 years, as well as Membership Chair for the past two years.

Sonya Anyanwu (Nominee for 2nd Vice President): I have an 11th grade granddaughter at CVHS. Being from a military family, I have had the opportunity to experience different dynamics and ways of doing things with many different school districts, both here in the U.S. and abroad. I am very interested in being involved with the schools and teachers and assisting in working toward the same goal of providing a place where children can learn. I’ve worked as a bank teller for 16 years and am currently an Associate Broker with Century 21 New Millennium Real Estate, continuing 20 years in real estate.

Paul Brazier (Nominee for Treasurer): I have an 11th grade daughter at CVHS. Having grown up in the Northern Virginia area, I have been involved in the local community for many years.  I have served on a Homeowners Association board of directors as both President and Vice President.  I also served on my current neighborhood's swim team as treasurer for 4 years.  Since retiring from the treasurer position, I have been active with my children's school and sports activities.  I have been an active volunteer for various activities at Centreville HS and am looking forward to my daughter's graduation from Centreville in the Spring of 2019.

Stephanie Sursi (Nominee for Secretary): I have a rising 9th grade daughter and a 10th grade daughter at CVHS. I have served on the PTAs of Liberty Middle School and Centreville Elementary School, chairing positions in each place. I run an editing business and I work part time for the FBI. I have extensive experience in administration, management and training. I have been a Girl Scout leader for the past 10 years, and a member of the Girl Scout Service Unit board, handling multiple roles.

Voting will take place at our May 15th meeting.  ALL members are encouraged to attend!  This is our LAST meeting of the year!

At our Early Bird September meeting, several people asked if we could look in to how their students could get a list of the morning's announcements.  Because we have such an awesome website curator in Ms. Miller in the Library, our job was easy!  To get the day's morning announcements, go to the CVHS website home page, and look under "Announcements" and you will find the  "Centreville Daily Announcements" button for the CVNN Daily Announcements.

Thanks, Ms. Miller!
